Just because you own a FiST, that does not make the FoST an inferior car. Likewise, just because I own a FoST, that does not make the FiST worse. I have driven both extensively and they both have pros and cons. There are multiple reasons that people choose the Focus over the Fiesta. Size is just one of them. Personally, I like the looks over the Focus more, but that doesn't mean I'm calling the Fiesta ugly. Overall, all ST owners should be able to see the merits in both.

I took a look at both. I have 3 kids so the FoST was just bigger and a no-brainer. Plus I felt like it looked a bit better, maybe a touch more upscale? Probably in my head.

SHOTS HAVE BEEN FIRED

On a side note, I'm genuinely curious, how does the FiST feel and drive compared to the FoST? Better or worse? Does it feel lighter? how's the steering?

The steering is very direct and the car is noticeably lighter. One of the main reasons that I chose the FoST is that you don't get nearly as much feel of torque in the FiST.

I'm just not a fan of electrically-assisted steering racks because they really don't provide much feel to me in the way my Astra's electrohydraulic steering did. It doesn't feel connected when it's all electrons.

There is no hatred amongst ST owners. I'm pretty sure every time FoST and FiST owners meet all other car owner groups would be sickened by the amount of "OHHHH but YOOOOUURRR CAAAAARRR is just SOOOO GOOOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) "and then the other guy is all "OH STOP IT YOUUUUUUUUU :* :* :* :* :* Because YOUR CAAARRRRRR is just SOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOODDDD *slurp* *lick* *makeout*"

and I say this as a FiST owner.

Much tighter feel, much more stable. The drop in power and shorter wheelbase means you can change direction VERY rapidly yet securely.

But can it get sideways? I kinda like that in the FoST, that feeling of insecure handling and torque steer when you get on it because it makes up for the lack of steering feel I get from those electrons.

Also, I have to ask you something else.

Can it get sideways and get the tail out as easy as the FoST?

And are you still planing on doing that rallycross event next month?

It is even easier to kick the back end out on the FiST thanks to less weight, skinnier tires, and a shorter wheelbase.

I'm still up in the air about that event but I probably will to pass the time and to visit the opening of a brewery that weekend. I will definitely say that the FiST's strength when sliding is how easy it is to also alter the course of your slide with the gas or brakes. I think it wa Johnny Liberman during the best drivers car for MT who said it best - "In these other cars with lots of power and big engines, if you mess up going into a corner, you just have to slow it down and back out of it. But in the Fiesta, that small size and low power means that you can correct mid-corner very easily and safely."

Don't deny it. You've heaped praise and had it heaped back onto you by other ST drivers. And you park next to them in lots. And you thumbs up at them as you drive by.

The FiST is the best for the money. The FoST is GTI, WRX, etc...money.

It makes me wonder if it'd be worth it to "trade down" in the future...

If you're still planning on going to the event, let me know, because I don't want to go to this kinda thing by myself, I'd love for someone who I know on Oppo to be there as a mentor or guide of sorts.

I never test drove a Fiesta of any kinda.

I cross-shopped and drove two Focus STs before driving three Fiesta STs. Pros/Cons to follow:

Focus ST:
Pros: Space, reasonable MPG, POWAAAAA, ALL THE TORQUES.
Cons: Handled like a heavier car than it is, straight-line speed, cramped driver's spot, terrible-looking parking brake, ALL THE BUTTONS for infotainment

Fiesta ST:
Pros: Small, light, good MPG, reasonable power, good torque, Seems like it's more open in the driver's spot, clean layout for infotainment
Cons: Passenger space, doesn't feel "fast" but "quick" instead, almost as much $ as a base Focus ST (or more), touchscreen looks like an afterthought

I ended up with a Fiesta ST. Edit: And my 7-week-old son can fit in the center with a rear-facing car seat.

I will more than likely be there now that I think about it. I'll sign up over the weekend. The thing about the FoST/FiST is you can go back and forth all day and all night. So I don't see it as worth it to switch between the two unless you have a FiST but then need more room for kids/life/etc....

Just do the ST Octane academy school in Utah. You will understand the glory of both. And you will then want two: FiST for autocross and FoST for track day. Problem solved.

I already explained that I enjoy both. Both are great cars that fill their own niche. It just so happened that the Focus fit me better at the time of purchase than the Fiesta.

Kinja'd!!!1

Fuck yes, you can. When we were doing the autoX course in Utah we all agreed that the Fiesta was much easier to throw around. J-turns and 180's were so easy to do in that car.

My bad, the comment was directed to all those with the opinion that one was inferior to the other. I had the same conclusion as yourself (will it baby?/carry stuff) and since my wife also had a hand in the purchase (ah, marriage) we concluded bigger is better. She also loves her SUV, so I will leave it at that. :-)

Is it bad that I feel like a large part of why I didn't get the Focus ST was because that handbrake weirded me out? The Fiesta ST just felt good to be in.

A well done electric rack is better than an average hydraulic rack, I believe the NSX was an electric rack.

The Focus rode a tad better, and the on boost and off boost torque is noticeably better. Fiesta feels more nimble and direct? If that makes sense.
